Thanksgiving 2008.
For the last two weeks I have been thinking about things for which I am thankful. To sum up those thoughts, I am so thankful for LIFE! Not just this life, but the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. I am thankful for some incidents that have happened this year to make me even more aware of the preciousness of the very next breath that we take.

On September 19th, I choked on a piece of a grape. There was no air exchange! Fortunately, Ed was at home. I walked down the steps, Ed used the Heimlich maneuver and I could breathe again. In that frightening minute, I panicked and forgot that I could lean over the back of a chair to help open the airway. All I could think was that if I could get to Ed, he would take care of what needed to be done. For several days, I was very aware of many of the “next breaths” that I took. Thank you, God and Ed!

When Reagan Olivia was born we had the opportunity to watch her grow from 1lb 6oz and 12 inches until she was ready to come home in June. I had never seen a baby so premature. My long-held conviction that abortion is wrong was re-affirmed and informed IN A NEW WAY, by the flesh and blood of our granddaughter. It was horrifying to think of partial birth abortions performed at the same age that Reagan was BORN! May God forgive our nation and open the eyes of those who don’t understand.

Daily, Ed and I have been encouraged, supported and carried by the prayers of so many who joined our families as we trusted God for Reagan’s LIFE. Thank you so much. We thank God for Amy’s Dr. Dorton in Thomasville who made the wise choice to send Amy to Forsyth. We will never pass by Forsyth or Baptist Hospital without praying for and thanking God for all who work there in every capacity. We feel blessed beyond measure.

There is so much we have learned through this experience. We are so grateful for the outcome. What if the outcome had been very different? We would have had a different learning experience and much grief and would have been challenged to trust God in other ways. We remain confident that in all of LIFE, God is present and we can trust him.
